Sherion Lawson, Administrative Employee of the Year for 2015, Denton Fire Department<\/p><\/div>\n
Sherion Lawson, a graduate of North Central Texas College (NCTC) with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Business Office Technology, has worked with the Denton Fire Department for over 15 years. Lawson was employed full-time while completing her degree with NCTC.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen I was looking at different schools and programs,\u201d said Lawson, \u201cit really came down to location and convenience for me. That\u2019s why I chose NCTC.\u201d<\/p>\n
Once Lawson finished the program through NCTC she received a job title change that came with more financial compensation as well. Though Lawson was looking forward to this promotion, she also gained something she didn\u2019t know she would be getting \u2013 a boost of confidence.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy confidence has been the biggest change since I finished my degree,\u201d said Lawson. \u201cI became more confident in my work and learned that if I was running into a problem,
\nI could also help with the solution.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lawson also saw changes in herself outside of work. She currently serves as the Chairman of the Martin Luther King Jr. Advisory Board for the MLK Jr. Recreation Center in Denton.<\/p>\n
\u201cI wouldn\u2019t have volunteered for something like this before I had my degree,\u201d said Lawson. \u201cWith this new confidence I\u2019ve learned to challenge myself and do things outside of my comfort zone in order to grow.\u201d<\/p>\n
