Continuing Education courses are usually short, pay-as-you go and last anywhere from four weeks to four months. Most all of our career courses are designed to help increase your skill sets in a certain area and obtain a state or national certification or license which can enhance your job potential. Here are a number of options to consider:<\/p>\n
Certified Nursing Aide (CNA) <\/span><\/strong>\u2013 Nursing assistants provide basic patient care in a variety of settings including nursing homes and hospitals. CNA is the first step on a nursing career ladder as well as a great option for those who are exploring a health career. The local workforce boards show a need for CNA\u2019s throughout the state, and this short class will certify you to work as a Nurse Aide in Texas. Many of our students take this class to prepare for nursing programs at NCTC. You will learn effective communication, vital signs recording, taking proper care of patients, and becoming a useful advocate for residents in long-term care centers. Our instructors are Licensed Vocational Nurses who have worked in long-term care for many years.<\/p>\n Clinical Medical Assistant<\/span><\/strong> \u2013 Learn medical terminology, phlebotomy, EKG, wound care, vital signs, sterile technology, medical procedures, OSHA guidelines, and more in this 340-hour class that includes 160 hours of externship. Our classes are taught by seasoned, professional nurses and lab technicians who are actively working in the healthcare industry.<\/p>\n Dental Assistant <\/span><\/strong>\u2013 The Department of Labor estimates that the career of Dental Assistant is projected to grow much faster than average in the upcoming years. Our program responds to this demand with a 14-week course that combines lecture and lab on Saturdays, with hands-on training in an actual dental office. You will learn anatomy, dental terminology, chair side assisting, impression making, X-ray fundamentals, sterilization techniques, and tray set-up. Our instructors are Registered and Certified Dental Assistants with years of experience.<\/p>\n Sterile Processing\/Instrument Technician <\/span><\/strong>\u2013 Instrument Technicians work in hospitals and day surgery centers, where they sterilize surgical instruments and keep operating rooms sanitized. These very important workers are the first line of defense against infections in the medical field. Our students have found work at area hospitals, and this course serves as a great \u201cfirst step\u201d for students interested in pursuing NCTC\u2019s Surgical Technology program.<\/p>\n Patient Care Technician<\/span><\/strong> \u2013 Under the supervision of medical and nursing staff, Patient Care Technicians (PCT) provide basic care in hospitals, nursing homes, urgent care centers, wound care centers, home care agencies, medical practitioners\u2019 offices and long term and memory care facilities. They assist patients with activities of daily living, check vital signs, input and output; perform CPR, electrocardiograms, EKGs, collection and testing of specimens, phlebotomy and basic laboratory procedures.<\/p>\n Pharmacy Technician <\/span><\/strong>\u2013 Completers of our Pharmacy Technician program have found work in retail and hospital pharmacies. In this program, you will learn drug interactions, terminology, and dosage calculations. The program includes preparation for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam through the state of Texas. NCTC Adult and Continuing Education Division is a PTCB Advocate Educator.<\/p>\n Phlebotomy Technician <\/span><\/strong>\u2013 Learn venipuncture and capillary puncture in this class that teaches the basics of phlebotomy. You will develop skills in blood collections, processing methods specific to blood banking, determining donor eligibility, and safely collecting specimens. Our class is taught by a Medical Laboratory Clinician with over a decade of experience.<\/p>\n Medical Office Programs<\/span><\/strong> \u2013 We offer a basic front office skills course in our Medical Administrative Assistant program as well as a program for medical coding, billing and insurance.\u00a0 Doctors\u2019 offices need professionals who can schedule appointments, assist patients with their paperwork, and understand HIPPA laws. Previous program completers have found work as receptionists and clerks in medical offices. Our instructor is a Medical Office Administrator.\u00a0 If Medical Billing and Coding is more interesting to you, our class will teach you the basics of Medical Billing and Coding in this intensive, introductory class. Instruction covers medical terminology, and beginning coding concepts and gives an overview of skills and knowledge in ICD and CPT coding for reimbursement of medical services.<\/p>\n Pre-Apprentice Electrical<\/span><\/strong> \u2013 Considering a career as an Electrician? Our Electrical Pre-Apprentice program will provide an overview of the electrical industry as well as the basic skills needed to make you job-ready in the field.\u00a0 <\/span>This program also provides a pathway to an Electrical Apprenticeship credit program.\u00a0 The program includes activities designed to increase your overall employability. Electrical theory and safety, mathematics, and general practical skills are taught within the program, along with how to interpret electrical drawings. You will also gain a strong understanding of the basic tools and equipment an electrician uses on the job. Electrical safety also plays a major part within the program.<\/p>\n Real Estate Sales License<\/span><\/strong> \u2013 Are you interested in becoming a Real Estate Agent? As a licensed Texas Real Estate Agent, you will be able to help clients buy, sell, and rent properties. We are now offering a Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) approved program. This Texas-mandatory training will prepare you for the licensing exam and your future in real estate.<\/p>\n SHRM Essentials\u00ae<\/sup><\/span> \u2013 The SHRM Essentials\u00ae<\/sup> of HR Management is an introductory course offering a complete overview of human resource roles and responsibilities. If you are just starting out in the profession, or are looking for an effective way to boost your employee management skills, this is the program for you!<\/p>\n SHRM Certified Professional<\/span> \u2013Establish yourself as a globally recognized human resource expert by earning the new standard in HR certification: SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CPSM) and SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCPSM). These professional certifications can open doors for professional advancement, serve to harmonize standards with changing expectations and signal to employers advanced professional development. They reflect what HR practitioners need to know to be leaders in their organizations and in the profession.<\/p>\n We also offer a wide variety of online courses and even courses as short as one day designed to develop or update skill areas such as computers (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), Quick Books, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Successful completion of any of our courses will earn you a certificate of completion from North Central Texas College.<\/p>\n NCTC also offers a Career Services Center with a comprehensive listing of links for jobs as well as help with resume writing and interview tips.
