{"id":42,"date":"2018-02-14T19:21:09","date_gmt":"2018-02-14T19:21:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nctc.mycareerfocus.org\/spring-2018-volume-3-issue-1\/cosmetology-always-the-opportunity-to-expand-and-grow-student-focus-story\/"},"modified":"2018-03-30T14:56:42","modified_gmt":"2018-03-30T14:56:42","slug":"student-spotlight-cassie-lewis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/nctc.mycareerfocus.org\/spring-2018-volume-3-issue-1\/student-spotlight-cassie-lewis\/","title":{"rendered":"Student Spotlight: Cassie Lewis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">\u201cCosmetology is a really fun, amazing field to work in where there\u2019s always opportunity to expand and grow.\u00a0 You never have to feel stagnant in this profession unless you just plain give up,\u201d says Cassie Lewis, a current Esthetics student.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Cassie always wanted to get her Cosmetology license but found other schools too expensive. She studied Cosmetology on the NCTC Gainesville Campus where she received her certificate to become a hairstylist two years ago. \u00a0Cassie began working at the JCPenney salon in Denton, Texas, which has allowed her to work full time and earn full benefits, which can be rare in this field.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Cassie never realized Esthetics existed as a career until she attended NCTC, and she didn\u2019t realize it was a field she would be interested in until she started working as a hairstylist.\u00a0 Starting a new career caused her stress, which triggered a skin disorder known as psoriasis.\u00a0 Having this disease is what made Cassie think about obtaining her Esthetics certificate, as Estheticians are also known as skincare specialists.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">While working at the JCPenney salon, Cassie felt the need to expand her abilities.\u00a0 Cassie made the decision to return to NCTC to obtain her dual license as a Cosmetologist and Esthetician.\u00a0 Cassie\u2019s future goals include owning and operating her own full-service salon and spa.\u00a0 She is currently considering returning to NCTC to earn her Instructor\u2019s certificate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Cassie has enjoyed her time at NCTC and appreciates the \u201creal world\u201d experience she has received while working with clients in the NCTC salon-esthetic labs.\u00a0 Speaking to this experience, Cassie said, \u201cIt lets me pretend I\u2019m at work which helps me feel that much more prepared when I start working.\u201d\u00a0 Cassie will graduate with her Esthetics certificate from NCTC in May 2018.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">For information about the Cosmetology or Esthetics programs, please contact Stephanie Lindsey, Division Chair-Human Services &amp; Hospitality, 940-668-3314 or <a href=\"mailto:slindsey@nctc.edu\">slindsey@nctc.edu<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cCosmetology is a really fun, amazing field to work in where there\u2019s always opportunity to expand and grow.\u00a0 You never have to feel stagnant in this profession unless you just plain give up,\u201d says Cassie Lewis, a current Esthetics student.
