{"id":64,"date":"2018-02-14T21:41:37","date_gmt":"2018-02-14T21:41:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nctc.mycareerfocus.org\/spring-2018-volume-3-issue-1\/who-says-you-cant-be-in-two-places-at-once\/"},"modified":"2018-03-30T14:56:42","modified_gmt":"2018-03-30T14:56:42","slug":"who-says-you-cant-be-in-two-places-at-once","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/nctc.mycareerfocus.org\/spring-2018-volume-3-issue-1\/who-says-you-cant-be-in-two-places-at-once\/","title":{"rendered":"Who Says You Can&#8217;t be in Two Places at Once?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Tony Cabral is a senior at Gainesville High School and this May he will earn a Level I Certificate at North Central Texas College before graduating from high school.\u00a0 Cabral got a jump start on his career by participating in the dual credit Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Program through North Central Texas College.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Working in the industry has helped to reinforce the skills Cabral learned in the classroom and labs.\u00a0 His future plans include working for a year and then returning to school for an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in HVAC to learn more about commercial units and duct work.\u00a0Of his dual credit experience Cabral said, \u201cIt wasn\u2019t always easy because I missed out on some things that high school kids enjoy doing outside of school, but it proved to be more than worth it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans Bold';\">Admission Requirements:<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Talk to your high school counselor to see if you are eligible to participate in dual credit.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Apply online at <b>applytexas.org<\/b>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Submit a high school transcript and any required immunization records to the NCTC dual credit coordinator (your high school counselor may be able to assist with this).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Complete a dual credit registration form with course and section information. The form must be signed by the student, parent, and high school counselor.\u00a0 The high school counselor must approve all courses.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Pay for courses after registration.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans Bold';\">In Partnerships with ISDs:<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">NCTC partners with School Districts in Cooke, Denton, Montague, and Young counties to provide both academic and CTE dual credit.\u00a0 NCTC offers a 42-semester credit hour core curriculum that is transferrable to any public university in Texas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">NCTC provides a variety of CTE programs to meet the needs of individual districts.\u00a0NCTC also offers dual credit opportunities for interested home school students.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans Bold';\">CTE programs offered as dual credit through NCTC*:<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Agriculture<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Business Management<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Business Office Technology<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Cosmetology<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Criminal Justice<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Fire Science<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Engineering Technology (drafting)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Heating, Ventilation, &amp; Air Conditioning (HVAC)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Machining<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Petroleum Technology<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Welding<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">*Programs vary by school and campus location.\u00a0 Please talk with your counselor about options for your school.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans Bold';\">Tuition:<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">NCTC offers a reduced tuition rate for dual credit students.\u00a0Dual credit scholarships are available through the NCTC Foundation.\u00a0 NCTC also offers free and reduced grant options to students who qualify and participate in their school\u2019s free and reduced lunch program.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans Bold';\">Books &amp;
