NORTH CENTRAL TEXAS COLLEGE…KEEPING NORTH TEXAS and the DFW METROPLEX HEALTHY
One of the most in-demand industries today is the healthcare industry, including everything from nursing, radiologic technology, health information management and coding, to training for Emergency Medical Technicians.
With nursing, the United States is experiencing a shortage of qualified nurses, a need that is expected to grow as the Baby Boomer Generation continues to age and retire. The Texas Workforce Commission projects the number of nursing jobs to increase 28 percent through 2020.
“My husband and I are huge supporters of NCTC. We loved NCTC and the small class sizes. It was a great experience and allowed us to begin our nursing careers”, said Melissa Granados, NCTC’s LVN and ADN graduate, who currently works for an outpatient wound care/hyperbaric facility as their clinical manager in the Ft. Worth area.
The nursing programs at NCTC offer hands-on training for an associate of applied science degree in professional nursing (RN) or a vocation nursing certificate (LVN). With state-of-the-art equipment, especially within the Simulation Center housed in NCTC’s new Leo & Mabel Scott Health Science Center, nursing students are able to obtain up-to-date and real-world experience.
“The nursing knowledge I gained from the ADN program at North Central Texas College has been rewarding,” said Granados. “NCTC’s ADN program prepared me for my RN to BSN program that I completed at the University of Texas at Arlington back in December of 2014”.
In addition to nursing, NCTC offers healthcare programs including surgical technology, fire science, emergency medical technician, and radiologic technology. North Central Texas College has also established agreements with several universities, including Texas Woman’s University and Midwestern State University, which allows ADN graduates to earn their BSN degree in a smooth transition pathway while working as registered nurses.
“North Central Texas College has flexible classes including online options that allow students to work and support their families. My faculty were supportive and very personable,” said Granados, whose husband, Victor, was also a graduate of NCTC’s LVN and LVN-to-ADN programs, and is currently enrolled in the University of Texas at Arlington’s BSN program.
“I am in a career that I enjoy and my education that began at NCTC has helped me climb the ladder within the nursing profession and has contributed to my pursing an FNP from University of Texas at Arlington which I expect to complete
in 2019”.
